I was born in Hays Kansas in 1952. My love of art began in high school taking basic drawing and art history classes. As a young student, my interest in art continued to grow and I was inspired by my high school art instructor who encouraged me to explore other art forms such as ceramics, metal arts and sculpture. As an art student at the local college, I studied drawing and painting and, later on, commercial art. I never entered the field of advertising on a professional level but chose other career paths instead working full time jobs but continuing to create artwork on the side.
I have done numerous landscapes, portraits and still life pieces for show and sale over the years but have always been partial to abstract and have settled in to and have become very comfortable with the freedom that is so fulfilling to the creative processes, the ability to let the designs come from within myself rather than the familiar predictability of a scene viewed and mirrored to paper or canvas.
Currently working full time as an abstract artist I continue to grow and explore as each piece becomes a new adventure, a new discovery, an emotion, a capture of a moment in time, a naturally organic environment or an industrially manipulated event. I like to invite the viewers to find a piece of my work they can connect with and share the same experience that I enjoyed in creating it.
